SILVER CROSS is not a ceiling lift manufacturer but rather a free service that assists you in researching ceiling lifts and finding a low cost lift.

There are two ceiling lift types. One is where the track is mounted to the ceiling by brackets that are usually lagged to ceiling beams. The other track method is a self supporting track the has posts at either end and these posts are pressure fitted from the ceiling and floor.

Key Ceiling Lift Installation Tips

  • The self supporting track systems are more expensive than the tracks that are attached to the ceiling.
  • Some manufacturers will not guarantee their lifts unless they are installed by an approved installer.
  • Curved tracks can not be cut on a curve.
  • Straight tracks can be added to so as to increase length.
  • Doorway headers can be cut to accomodate the track.
  • Bathroom drop ceilings are more difficult to install a ceiling lift.
  • Applications where ceiling heights are low must confirm that the lift and sling will have sufficent room to work.
  • Lift height is critical if the ceiling is lower than a normal height.
  • Manufacturers have standard installation methods for different types of ceilings.
  • Generally, there is some flexibility as to the position of the track mounting brackets.

  • Slings come in different sizes to fit client needs.
  • Most slings are made of mesh materials to permit bathing.
  • More than one sling is common if one sling gets wet.
  • Almost all slings have different strap positions that allow the user to be in either a sitting up position or a more reclined position.
  • A portable lift can be moved from room to room and simply hooked onto each track with a reacher or an extension strap from the ceiling track down to a manageable height for the care giver.
  • A detailed diagram of a bathroom application is necessary to make sure a track system will work.
